I won't ask you to turn it into a toastie or fry it for French toast — these are much more exciting than that — though I do have a recipe for simple pangrattato and pasta. My favourite has to be the summer pudding — though this is not my recipe but my mum's, who would bring it out as a treat after Sunday lunch when I lived at home. She knows the recipe by heart. Brown bread ice cream is savoury and sweet, crunchy and smooth. I first tried it at the brilliant restaurant Brat in east London when it opened.
